There’s no telling where I’ll wind up drinking on any given night of the week and despite what many think, it’s not all neon lights and chrome poles which is how I came to be sat in Zinc 101 recently with the usual suspects.
We did have plans, all be it nothing set in stone, but we needed a warm up beer or two before we got going which is where Zinc 101, located a hop, skip and a jump down Sukhumvit 101/1, came to the rescue.
Cold beer, attentive staff, more cold beer, smiley staff, decent music, nice atmosphere, a mix of expats and locals… yeah, this place hit the spot.
The World Cup hadn’t kicked off yet when I was in but this would be a good spot to catch a game if you were down that end of town.
The bar has a couple of pool tables too if you’re in the mood to shoot a few balls with your mates or any of the other keen players hanging around looking to show off their skills.
Many of those in on this particular night were eating and all I could see was empty plates being carried away so I’m assuming they knock up some decent grub, although I didn’t try anything myself as I’d eaten earlier. Next time.
And yes, there will be a next time as I liked this place for the 90 minutes or so I was there. Relaxed, chilled… if only it was closer to home and not a 20 station trek on the BTS from my place.
You can’t win em all…
O’Shea’s Are Open Again
O’Shea’s Irish Pub on Sukhumvit 33/1 are open for food and non-alcoholic drinks once again daily from 9am to 9pm.
While no booze might not be ideal, it gets you out the house for a bit as there is nothing worse than being caged up all day and night plus there’s always something to see on the soi too.
If you are thinking no beer, no point that’s okay, you can order from the food menu for delivery through their Facebook page, by phone (095 795 1841), LINE and LINEMAN so you can pop a few tinnies at home while you feast on some grub.
Home delivery available daily from 9am to 9pm.
Soi 22 Blast from The Past
Here’s a walk down Sukhumvit Soi 22 memory lane for some who might remember Ray’s place Twenty Two Bar.
It relocated here from Sukhumvit Road and was a popular hangout for Scots in Bangkok.
I remember sinking a shandy or two here with my old mate TommyTrueBlue back in the day.
Above Eleven Closed Until Further Notice
With fewer and fewer people out and about plus more and more restrictions at national and provincial levels coming into effect, notices from businesses taking the decision to temporarily close just keep on coming thick and fast.
The latest place to take this tough decision is Above Eleven who published the following statement today.
Dear Above Eleven Guests,
We have made the difficult decision to temporarily close Above Eleven until further notice.
As the COVID-19 situation heightens, we believe this decision is in the best interest of our staff, guests, and the public at large. It truly saddens us that we’re unable to serve you at our venue and we cannot wait to invite you back to Above Eleven soon.
In the meantime, we hope you and your family stay safe! 💚
Above Eleven Team
Hopefully, Above Eleven and everyone else choosing to close at this stage will be back before we know it.
