The sad news last week was last orders being called for the final time at Check Inn 99 on Sukhumvit Rd. I don’t need to go over the story of what happened to Bangkok’s longest running bar as every English language website based in Thailand covered it so I’m sure you know the story only too well.

The good news this week is the owners have already found an alternative location and the “new” Check Inn 99 will be reopening under the Oakwood Apartments on Sukhumvit Soi 24 in what some may know as Admiral’s Bar.

A soft opening is planned for Sunday 10th July with a jazz session and full nightly entertainment from Music of the Heart band following shortly after.

The new venue is only a few minutes walk from the Phrom Phong BTS Station and comes with parking and rooftop bar which they fully intend to utilize in addition to the usual evening entertainment.

Bent Peter Laasholdt, who operates the Admiral’s Bar, bought Check Inn 99 back 1983 and has a long affinity and love for the old place.

Chris and his staff will be working flat out this week moving furniture, fixtures and fittings to make the new place feel like home for customers old and new.

I’ll update later in the week on Facebook & Twitter and share a photo or two of how things are coming along.
