Som’s Haven Changing Name, Location

Soms Haven Changing Name

Soi 14 house of oral relief Som’s Haven will be changing its name and location next month, but still will be close enough to cap off a Soi Cowboy visit.

A Budget Bobby favourite, Som’s is changing its name to Duangporn’s Haven, which doesn’t exactly trip off the tongue, but probably reflects the fact Som either sold up or settled down after finding a big German sausage.

As for where Som’s, er, Duangporn’s is moving, it’s around the corner on Asoke Montri Road near the Citypoint Hotel complex. Exit the Asok BTS at Exit 4 or the MRT Sukhumvit Station at Exit 3 and you’ll soon find yourself at the home of Budget Bobby’s famous 800-baht B&B Combo.

Don’t go walking in and ask for the Combo, though. They’ll look you like the daft farrang you are. Bobby made a funny. That’s not actually its name. Oh, and the price has gone up to 900-baht.

Finally, why the move you may be asking? The staff couldn’t really talk with their mouths full, but such things usually happen due to leases being up, rents going up or bars being sold.

The Penalty Spot Will Be Back

The Penalty Spot

I shared a photo earlier today on social media of The Penalty Spot on Sukhumvit Road asking was the bar another COVID casualty as it had a sign posted with a name and number giving the impression the shophouse it stands in was available for rent.

Just to clear up any confusion as to whether The Penalty Spot will reopen or not I can confirm the bar will be back as soon as the government gives the green light.

It’s just a simple case of no booze, no point.

I totally get that, so now that’s been cleared up I’m off to have a cold one.

They have some great deals on our draft craft beers at 199 baht a pint which is for takeaway only.

Strict social distancing measures are in place so our customers can feel safe and comfortable.

Hooters Silom No More?

Published

hooters silom closed down

It appears that the Silom branch of Hooters is no more unless the owners are throwing good money away giving the place a revamp.

A photo shared with me by Twitter user @CiaranMcGivern shows workmen taking down the Hooters signage while others inside take out all the fixtures and fittings.

The Silom branch was Hooters sixth outlet to open in Thailand and third branch in Bangkok when it debuted back in May 2018.

From my many trips to Silom in those 2 years, I recall it being busy once when they were holding a party and every other time there were just a handful of customers.

With the monthly rent running at 1.2 million baht it was never going to be easy making it work, even with a big brand name.
