As I mentioned last week when talking about Billboard and Butterflies taking two nights off, the prolonged border closure to regular tourists is tough on everyone in the entertainment and nightlife business.
As the weeks and months pass, more and more bar owners are making the decision to go part-time to cut costs in a bid to see out the current downturn and still be in business when the borders open back up.
The Nana Group are the latest company to take the tough decision to streamline and refocus their attention and resources with news that from today, Sunday 15th November, Angelwitch, Obsession and the VW Bus Bar will close 3 nights a week while DC-10 will close until further notice.
Lollipop together with Witchcraft and the VW Bus Bar recently rolled out a line-up of new booze bargains.
From 4-8pm, all domestic beers are just 69 baht for a regular bottle while Leo longnecks are only 99 baht.
Standard mixed drinks are just 99 baht a go and if you are really ready for a wild night a Jagerbomb with imported Red Bull is also just 99 baht.
Not too shabby, eh? And the ladies in the current Lollipop line-up are more than a bit of alright let me tell you.
Major Renovations Underway At Twister BKK
Twister BKK is one of, if not the biggest, go-go bar in Bangkok and it’s currently a shell of its former self with construction crews on the tools transforming it into something very different.
The inside of the massive bar, which must be at least 8 shophouses wide, is currently a shell with the owners stripping it bare to start the new build from scratch.
So what is on those drawings of the new design and layout?
A big boat. And I mean a very BIG boat that will run for almost the entire length of the bar as the stage. It will even have a higher built section for Titanic-like moments.
The outside area has also been stripped back to nothing but I don’t know if there will be any boat-like bar going up.
My question is what will it be called? Will the new management go for Love Boat A-GoGo?
I guess we’ll need to wait and see.
The Scene On Soi Cowboy Last Night
Yes, there’s no denying it is a sad sight to see the Neon Alley looking like this but it will be back soon and the good times can roll again.
With vaccine rollouts around the world picking up momentum and Thailand preparing for mass inoculations, there is light at the end of this Covid tunnel.
Nana Plaza Back In The Day
Lollipop Mermaidium shown in the photo above closed in August 2002 giving us a rough idea of when this snap was taken. as it was only around a few years.
Nana Plaza back in the day was a totally different place from what it is now.
Of course, old hands will always tell you it was much better before but just you ask anyone who has visited recently for the first time what they think and it’s likely they had themselves a ball.
