One Night In Bangkok – One Song, Five Remixes

Is there anyone out there who isn’t familiar with the 80s hit “One Night In Bangkok” by Murray Head?

The track was penned in 1984 with music by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, formerly of ABBA, with lyrics by Tim Rice and included on the highly successful Chess concept album that was released prior to the first theatrical production in order to raise money.

The album was released in the autumn of 1984 while the show opened in London’s West End in 1986.

1 song 5 remixes One Night In Bangkok

One Night In Bangkok was released as a single in October 1984 with Murray Head rapping the verses and the choruses sung by the Swedish artist Anders Glenmark.

It topped the charts in many countries including South Africa, West Germany, Switzerland and Australia, peaking at #3 in both Canada and the USA in May 1985 and at #12 in the UK.

Since then it has been re-recorded and remixed numerous times with some versions, such as Robey’s 1985 ripoff, not worthy of including as they’d only make your ears bleed.

Mind you, not every one of the five remixes below are going to blow the doors off any nightclubs as time hasn’t been kind to a couple of the tracks and they now sound very dated, however, at the time of their release, it was a different story.
