Korat cops were celebrating this week after busting a huge haul of crystal methamphetamine with a street value of over 1 billion baht.
The massive bust was announced at a press conference on Tuesday where the national police chief told reporters a pickup packed with 508 kilos of “ice” was seized and one drug mule had been arrested.
Thai media reported a checkpoint had been set up in the Bua Yai district of Nakhon Ratchasima province to capture the suspects following months of inter-agency surveillance and intelligence gathering.
When the Toyota spotted the checkpoint it made a sudden u-turn forcing officers into action and calling upon local colleagues to intercept the vehicle if seen.
A few hours later the pickup was found abandoned with the haul of meth packed into fertiliser sacks still in the vehicle.
Locals gave a description of the two men who fled the vehicle and a short time later one was picked up at the local railway station.
He soon folded like a deckchair and confessed to having been paid 20,000 baht to drive from Nakhon Phanom to an unknown location.
The search for the second suspect continues.
