Bangkok governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra has revealed that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration plan to install over 11,000 additional CCTV cameras around the capital by the end of 2016.

The plan was approved today in a meeting of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council. The proposal was given the green light in a bid to enhance efficiency of public safety measures.

Mr Sukhumbhand said there are now 58,614 cameras installed around Bangkok but only 47,063 were in service. He went on to say just over 14,000 cameras have been connected with surveillance stations operated by district offices, police stations and other public security-related networks for the benefit of traffic control and crime suppression.
