A late night swoop on Sukhumvit Soi 4 by police and military personnel from various divisions and departments seen 80 Africans rounded up and 21 arrests made.
Just after 12.30am a team of 100 officers from the Narcotics Suppression Division, the Patrol and Special Operation Division, Royal Thai Armed Forces HQ, and Lumpini Police Station descended upon Sukhumvit Soi 4 and began rounding up dozens of Africans loitering on the street and sub-sois.
Of the 80 detained – 13 men and 67 women – all were asked to provide I.D. and supply a urine sample for drug testing.
14 had no passports with a further 6 found to have overstayed their visa. One had a German passport and five Nigerian.
One man from Namibia tested positive for drugs and was arrested along with the visa violators and those unable to provide their passports.
All were taken to Lumpini police station for further processing.
Note: Various news outlets and police departments are citing different figures for arrests and violations. I have used the numbers I believe to be correct.
