American Torpedoed At Swampy

Justice caught up with an American who stole a speedboat for a joyride around Krabi when he tried to leave Thailand via Bangkok’s main airport.

Suvarnabhumi International Airport authorities cuffed the Yank, identified only as Parker, 25, on April 24 and sent back to Krabi to face charges for the April 19 moonlight cruise that resulted in 350,000 baht in damage to the vessel.

The owner had left the keys in the boat when he parked it on Loh Da Lam Beach.

Drunk as a skunk, Parker had tried to rent several boats earlier but was rejected. So he jumped in the boat and went speeding off, not realizing the boat’s captain was sleeping on board.

The next morning the boat was spotted on Laem Tong beach 15 kilometres away. Its hull was damaged and the engine broken.

Parker, now sober and hungover, stumbled into a nearby hotel and asked where he was. He showed the receptionist his passport then hired another boat to take him back to his hotel on Phi Phi.

The boat owner filed a police report, but Parker – who arrived in Thailand on April 19 with six friends – escaped the island by putting clothes over his face – wasn’t apprehended until he hit Swampy immigration.
