Aussie iPhone Smuggler Arrested

An Australian man was arrested by Thai customs officials at Suvarnabhumi Airport on Sunday morning attempting to smuggle 26 iPhones into the country.

38-year-old Ho Won Harvard Lee was challenged as he made his way through the green “nothing to declare” lane with his suitcase stuffed full of new model iPhones worth around 1 million baht.

He told customs officers he was unaware he had to declare them as he didn’t plan on selling the phones in Thailand with his next destination being Singapore where he had a buyer.

Officials were having none of it and handed him over to airport police who charged him for violating the Telecommunications Act by illegally importing the phones.

None of the new iPhone models have been officially launched in Thailand yet stemming a large gray market of imported handsets.
