Australian Expat Hangs Himself In Buriram Hotel

An elderly Australian expat was found dead at a hotel in Buriram on Monday after he reportedly took his own life.

Edward Padinga, 68, was found hanging by a nylon cord in a third-floor room of a downtown hotel near the bus station by a member of staff.

Police and medics were called and it was determined that the ageing Australian had been dead for around three hours.

A suicide note and three thousand baht were found hanging on the wall close to the body.

Investigators dialled the last number on his mobile which was answered by Mr Padinga’s 29-year-old wife who came to the hotel to answer a few questions and shed some light on the situation.

She told police her husband had lost his passport and belongings in Pattaya alleging local police showed no interest in his plight sending him into a depressed state.

The handwritten note found at the scene stated there were many factors in his decision to end it all.

Police said there were no signs of foul play with the body being sent for an autopsy to determine the actual cause of death.
