Baby Crushed By Truck As Mother Chats On Phone

An 8-month-old boy was killed when his walker rolled into traffic and was crushed by a 10-wheeler truck in Samut Prakan.

Mother Wilawan Pitpan, 30, was holding the body of the infant when authorities arrived Thursday at the Thidarat Air Service shop on Suksawat Soi 84 in Phra Samut Chedi District. His head was crushed and the right knee cut.

Truck driver Sanan Sopapong, 61, said the walker rolled out of the air-conditioner service center in front of him before he could stop. He tried to swerve, but the left rear wheels rolled over the baby.

Wilawan said she had put the baby in the walker and let him play near the entrance barred by a makeshift, metre-high barrier.

But the mother was chatting on her phone as the baby pushed the walker hard against the barrier, which collapsed and the walker rolled into the road.
