On Friday HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn will lead the 29km Bike For Dad event around the streets of Bangkok with an estimated 600,000 cyclists taking part in the massive bike ride to mark the 88th birthday of His Majesty The King.
Traffic in many parts of the city will be grid-locked with 84 roads closed for upwards of 22 hours starting from midnight Thursday as organisers begin work setting up the route.
Many have questioned government bodies tasked with organising the event why a Friday was chosen over a Sunday as was the case for the highly successful Bike For Mom bike ride back in August.
The cabinet decided earlier this week to abandon plans to make Friday the 11th a public holiday leaving the BMA with no choice but to close 103 schools in 13 districts and hundreds of thousands unable to attend due to work commitments, not to mention the traffic chaos expected in many parts of downtown Bangkok.
I think I’ll stay home and watch #BikeForDad on the news instead of getting stuck in traffic or squashed with bikes on the BTS.
