Taxi Fare Increase Approved

The Ministry of Transport has rubber-stamped an increase in taxi fares for greater Bangkok with the new pricing coming into effect Sept 8.

Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob met with the heads of numerous taxi associations and officials from the Land Transport Department to discuss the new rates.

The new fares coming next month are as follows:

Flag fall rate of 35 baht for the first km (unchanged)
1-10 km 6.50 baht per km
10-20 km 7 baht per km
20-40 km 8 baht per km
40-60 km 8.50 baht per km
60-80 km 9 baht per km (unchanged)
80+ km 10.50 baht per km (unchanged)
If the vehicle is travelling less than 6/km/h (traffic jams) the fare will increase by 1 baht per minute

It was also agreed at the meeting surcharges for taxis at Suvarnabhumi airport would rise by 20 baht to 70 baht for standard-sized cabs and 90 baht for larger vehicles.

Luggage will also be subject to new charges with the first 2 items free then 20 baht per item thereafter.

The increases are subject to the taxi associations working together to launch a new taxi app to replace the Taxi OK application that is being shelved due to costs.
