A 23-year-old British man has been acquitted of murdering a fellow Liverpudlian who died after falling from a 5th floor balcony at his Bangkok apartment in June 2013.

James Anthony Durnan was cleared of murdering his friend, Darren Taylor, and walked free from Bangkok Criminal court with a 1500 baht fine after being found guilty of drugs charges plus a two month suspended sentence for assaulting Taylor’s pregnant girlfriend.

Police were called to Maitreejit Apartment at about 5.20am on June 13, 2013 and found Durnan at the scene with a cut to his arm, which police believed was caused when he tried to flee the area. He was arrested at the scene but later released on bail.

Toxicology tests on Mr Taylor showed he had alcohol and tobacco in his system, but found no evidence of drugs.

Despite testimony from the dead mans girlfriend Chantima Yuttaisong, and the fact the accused was found guilty of assaulting her, the court cleared Mr Durnan of any wrong doing regarding the death of his friend and he is now free to return to the UK.

Darren’s girlfriend, known as Dao, was pregnant when he died and has since given birth to his son, Anfield.
