Brit Killed In Pattaya By Exploding Firework

PATTAYA: A British man was killed in front of his fiance and friends after a firework he was attempting to set off to celebrate the New Year exploded in his face.

Police and rescue volunteers were called to Soi Liab Chai Had 13/2 at around 12.30am where they found a large crowd gathered around 51-year-old Gary McLaren who was laid on the ground with serious facial injuries.

EMTs performed CPR at the scene and attempted to stem the flood of blood coming from the Brits head, however, despite their best efforts, Mr McLaren succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Eyewitnesses told police the deceased attempted to light the large firework twice and it failed to go off. He stood in front of it despite smoke coming from it before the firework suddenly exploded hitting him directly in the face.

His fiance and friends were said to be inconsolable.
