Brit Refunded 250K Baht ‘Tip’ By Honest Krabi Restaurant

Honest Krabi Restaurant

A British man who left a 250,000 baht “tip” at a Krabi restaurant got the money back to pay off his maxed out credit card.

Identified only as Simon, 48, the Brit had keyed in the wrong amount when using his plastic to pay the bill at Punjab Palace restaurant in Nopparat Thara Beach April 9.

Simon apparently has a healthy credit line, as he didn’t realize he’d keyed in 257,857.12 instead of 2,857 baht for curries for him and three friends. Neither did the restaurant staff until manager Aporn, 32, discovered she had 255,000 baht more than she should at closing time.

Aporn alerted her Indian husband, who had seen the group, took off on his motorbike to track them down, to no avail. Aporn then went to police, who found the group at a hotel in Ao Nang Beach. But they were out for the day, so the cops left a message suggesting Simon might want to give them a ring.

He did on Thursday and was overjoyed to get a back of cash for the full amount he overpaid.

The restaurant could, of course, have just reversed the charge, but posing and pointing with the cops, tourists and a pile of baht is a much better photo to share on Facebook to brag about your honesty.
