British Woman Injured In Late Night Tuk Tuk Crash

Four tuk tuk passengers, including a British woman, were left with minor injuries when the three-wheeler they were riding was rear-ended by a speeding motorbike in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

When police arrived at the scene on Henri Dunant Road they found the tuk tuk overturned, the Kawasaki Z250 badly damaged and bodies scattered across the street.

Medics attended to the tuk tuk passengers and motorbike rider, identified as Sakda Wiangnon, 31, who was knocked unconscious in the crash. All five were taken to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

The tuk tuk driver, 47-year-old Sommai Saenkhot, told police he was heading to Sathorn via the Chalerm Pao intersection and was hit from behind by the speeding bike as he turned into Henri Dunant Rd.

The British woman, named only as Theresa, was among the four injured passengers that also included an Indian man in his 40s and a 27-year-old Thai man.

According to Thai media, police breathalysed the tuk tuk driver and will take statements from the passengers and witnesses adding they will check CCTV from the area to determine who was at fault before pressing any charges.
