BTS Fares Rise Oct 1 2017

The operators of the BTS Skytrain have announced fares will rise between 1-3 baht from October 1.

The new rates are 16, 23, 26, 30, 33, 37 and 40 baht for one to seven stations and 44 baht for eight stations or more. The new prices apply to only the original BTS lines, not any extensions – Mo Chit-On Nut and National Stadium-Saphan Taksin.

Holders of 30-day passes will pay just 1 baht more per trip while those using a Rabbit card won’t see any increases for another six months.

This price increase is the first since June 2013 despite the owners concession allowing rises every 18 months.

Higher operating costs is believed to be the reasoning behind the move with the statement reading 46 new 4-carriage trains are set to be delivered in 2018, disabled facilities installed across the network and new touch screen ticketing machine set to be rolled out in the months ahead all listed as ways the operators are improving services for passengers.

All Quiet As Movie Goers Swerve Strict Cinema Reopening Rules

Cinemas across the capital were almost empty on Monday on their first day open following the relaxation of rules that shut them down back in March in a bid to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Moviegoers obviously didn’t fancy watching old flicks, sitting in the theatre for two hours wearing a mask, and not being able to eat some popcorn while watching the film, so instead, they stayed away.

Managers tried to talk up some of the new measures put in place such as the screens placed between seats would allow more privacy for customers.

Couples can sit together with at least 3 seats between them and others in the theatre with nobody allowed to sit in front or behind each other.

Other regulations include customers going through screening which includes having their temperature taken and their hands washed; social distancing at all times including when buying tickets with e-payment the favoured option to avoid contact.

Every seat and all the touch points in the theatre must be cleaned after every viewing and the entire place hosed down at the end of the night.
