A taxi driver who assaulted and robbed two female Korean tourists because they asked him to use the meter has been arrested, according to Thai media.
Thanadech Thanathirapong, 51, was picked up by police at his home in the Phaya Thai district of Bangkok on Thursday and soon confessed to assaulting the two women with an iron bar before stealing their smartphones worth 50,000 baht earlier in the week.
Thanathirapong sold the two phones at a market in Huai Khwang for 5,000 baht.
He said he was angry they wanted him to use the meter adding he hadn’t planned the attack or robbery, despite having previous for stealing from passengers whilst on the job.
The victims are said to be recovering well following the ordeal and thanked the police for their swift action in arresting the suspect.
