Canadian Dies In Chiang Mai Zipline Fall

A Canadian died after his zipline snapped at a Chiang Mai tourist attraction.

The unidentified Canuck, 25, fell 12 meters and tumbled down a hill at the Flight of the Gibbon park in Mae Kampong village Saturday. Earlier fake news had his fall at 100 meters.

The Canadian must have been a big boy, as authorities are investigating whether weight limits were exceeded as the Canadian took off from one of the park’s 33 platforms. The cable split shortly after he departed.

It is the second accident at the Chiang Mai Flight of the Gibbon. Three Israelis were hurt when they collided in mid-air in 2016.

Flight of the Gibbon’s zipline course in Mae Kampong village, Chiang Mai, is about 5km long with 33 different platforms, making it one of the longest in Asia.

The Canadian embassy is providing service to the family, including the victim’s girlfriend, who witnessed the fatal fall.
