Canadian Drug Suspect Facing Extradition Found Dead In Police Cell

A Canadian wanted by American authorities on drug related charges was found dead in a police cell early Tuesday morning in what appears to be a suicide.

It’s believed 25-year-old Alexandre Cazes used a towel to hang himself in his cell at the Anti-Narcotics Bureau where he was being held awaiting extradition.

A worker at the detention center found his body laid on the cell floor face down and a towel tied around the deceased’s neck.

A warrant for the Canadian’s arrest was issued on June 30 at the Bangkok Criminal Court following a request by the FBI. He was apprehended at a house in Phutthamonthon district, Nakhon Pathom province on July 5.

Thai media report that his extradition was on hold as his wife was six months pregnant and authorities were attempting to locate her.

The body has been sent for an autopsy to determine the cause of death and a joint investigation by Thai and US authorities into the death is underway.
