Canadian Wanted In USA On Murder Charge Loses Extradition Appeal

On Wednesday a Canadian man lost his appeal against extradition to the USA after the Appeal Court upheld a 2019 ruling by the Criminal Court to send him back to face a murder charge.

Matthew Alexander McGowan is wanted for a fatal shooting in Florida back in September 2017 where he was caught on CCTV at the scene and a bullet matching the gun used found in his car.

The US sought his extradition soon after his arrest in November 2018 but McGowan fought against it and has been held since at the Bangkok Remand Prison while fighting his case.

In June 2019 the Criminal Court ruled there was sufficient evidence in the murder case against McGowan. He appealed that decision which was upheld and the ruling read out in court on Wednesday.

McGowan claims he is not the person described in the extradition request and asked via an interpreter could he again appeal the ruling to which he was told no, the decision was now final and he would be sent back to the USA to face the murder charge.

African Arrested Over Alleged Rape Of Teenager

A 58-year-old man from Guinea has been arrested for allegedly raping a teenage girl at a motel in the Phya Thai area of Bangkok earlier this week.

Mamady Keita was picked up outside a McDonald’s in Bang Rak after a 17-year-old girl filed a report with police she’d been sexually assaulted and robbed by an African man.

An investigation uncovered that Keita works as a ruby trader in the Silom area often going by the name “Michael”. He was tracked using CCTV footage to the fast-food restaurant where he was arrested.

His victim alleges she was approached and asked for direction before small talk led to the exchange of phone numbers and chat app details.

Keita later contacted the teenager offering her a job and a new smartphone.

A meeting was set to discuss the proposal and the pair went to a motel paid for by money allegedly stolen from the victims purse.

Thai media report similar allegation have been made in the past with the suspect matching the description of the attacker.

Keita now faces charges of abducting an individual over 15 but under 18 years old, rape and theft.
