A Chinese man was arrested by Tourist Police at Suvarnabhumi Airport yesterday after he was caught stealing money from another passenger on a flight from Turkey to Thailand.

45-year-old Qiquan Ma was caught on camera by a fellow passenger sitting several rows behind taking cash from a bag in the overhead compartment belonging to a Danish man.

After capturing the incident on his smartphone, the Turkish passenger alerted the crew who called ahead to police in Bangkok who were waiting at the gate to arrest Qiquan.

Deputy commander of the Tourist Police Division at the airport, Pol Col Nitithorn Jintanakanon, told reporters Harald Amming, the Danish passenger, had around 5000 Euros stolen from his hand luggage.

He went on to say the Chinese man had been caught red-handed and would now be charged with theft after he and fellow officers had viewed the video evidence.

Police suspect Qiquan was traveling to Bangkok from Istanbul intent on commuting a crime as he had a return ticket leaving Bangkok within 24 hours of his arrival.
