Chinese Tourist Drowns Snorkeling Off Krabi

A Chinese tourist who got into difficulties snorkeling in shallow waters with friends in Krabi yesterday died as she was being transported to hospital.

Kong Su, 27, was found unconscious by rescue workers in waters off Ao Koh Hong, an island northwest of Ao Nang in Krabi province, after her friends reported her missing to lifeguards.

Officials from Than Bok Khorani National park launched a search for Miss Kong and she was soon found and brought ashore unconscious where CPR was administered on the beach before she was transferred to Krabi hospital.

During that journey the young woman was pronounced dead.

Police said the group of 12 tourists had been snorkeling and swimming in a designated area that was between 1-2 metres deep.

An autopsy will be performed to establish the exact cause of death and officials at the Chinese embassy informed.
