Chinese tourists visit Thailand

THAILAND: The latest figures from the Department Of Tourism show Russian visitor numbers have plunged significantly in recent months but figures overall are up on the same period last year thanks to an increase in tourists visiting the Kingdom from mainland China.

Department of Tourism Director-General Second Lieutenant Anuphab Kesornsuwan said the number of tourists visiting Thailand in January was 2.65 million, an increase of 16.30% from the same period last year. The rise continued in February at 29.60%.

The Director-General suggested the number of Chinese visitors would likely continue to rise throughout 2015 adding that Bangkok is their favoured destination closely followed by Chiang Mai and Phuket.

Lets not forget the streets were full of whistle blowers in the first half of 2014 that seen holidaymakers opt for other locations away from Thailand. Comparing these increases for January and February to the same period last year given the protests is, in my opinion, rather misleading.
