Kidnapped To Collect Bill

Three men arrested for kidnapping a Kalasin woman argued to police that their actions were justified because she owned them 350,000 baht for unpaid drugs.

Manasak Udomphan, 23, Surasak Chanpeng, 20, and Thanarat Phuchokchai, 23, said they were three of five collection agents for a local drug kingpin who had extended a too-generous line of credit to the unnamed 26-year-old woman rescued by police is the Issan province Monday.

They claimed the woman, whose disappearance was reported by family members, was a deadbeat drug addict.

Police, unsurprisingly, proved unsympathetic, informing the henchmen that their antics had been captured on CCTV.

The video shows men in one car cutting off the victim’s vehicle. Two men then get out and approach her car, in which two men also were traveling. Police suspect they were in on the kidnapping, but both have pleaded their innocence.

A pickup truck then arrives behind the victim’s stopped car and another man gets out. He pulls her out of the car by the hair and tosses her into the truck before speeding off.

She was then tied up at an abandoned warehouse in Don Chan District while kidnappers demanded that the family pay her 350,000 baht drug tab.

The suspects pleaded that they had no choice but to kidnap the woman because she kept promising to pay and then missing deadlines.
Arrest warrants have been issued for the other two suspects. Meanwhile, police also charged the three in custody with drug possession after investigators found methamphetamines in their Maha Sarakham hotel room.
