A foreigner was apprehended Thursday afternoon by security at Chiang Mai airport after he opened an emergency exit as the plane was preparing for takeoff.
Thai Smile flight WE169 was set to depart at 15.40 bound for Bangkok when the unidentified, and allegedly intoxicated, man goit up from his seat and opened one of the emergency exit windows.
Takeoff was aborted and airport officials notified of the incident that led to the foreigner being restrained before being removed from the plane.
The remaining 85 passengers on board finally set off for Bangkok at 5pm with Thai Smile issuing new tickets to those who missed connecting flights due to the delay.
No details were reported as to what, if any, charges the man would face.
