early closures continue

It was a weekend of early closing across Bangkok’s naughty nightlife areas with Soi Cowboy, Nana Plaza and Patpong all shutdown by 2am, much to the annoyance of bar hounds and business owners alike.

Soi Cowboy bars were hit first last Wednesday night when out of the blue they were ordered to close by 1am at short notice.

Come Friday night the “send everyone home at 2am” memo had made its way to police chiefs around town with Thonglor going one step further ordering bars to switch off all their outside lights turning the Neon Alley dark at 1am, giving the appearance bars were closed when in fact they were open for another hour.

The shut everyone down at short notice happened again on both Saturday and Sunday night leaving everyone scratching their heads and asking the big question: why?

As always, there’s plenty of speculation and theories but the truth is nobody knows the reasoning behind it all.

How long will it continue is another question people are asking and the answer to that is anyone’s guess as notice to close at 2am can often come an hour before.

If 2am closing cuts your night short then head out an hour earlier or take your chances that everything will go back to normal.
