Danish Cancer Sufferer Takes His Own Life In Krabi

A 69-year-old Danish man who was terminally ill with cancer was found dead yesterday at a bungalow in Ao Nang. Krabi in an apparent suicide.

The body of Steffen Ostergaard was discovered at a house he shared with several others laid face down on his bed wearing only shorts with his head covered with a clear plastic bag. It is believed he had been dead for at least 3 days.

Police and emergency workers found a small gas canister beside the bed that he had inhaled to end his own life along with a suicide note written to his family.

Investigations revealed that the dead man had been staying at the residence for several months and had been attending hospital for chemotherapy. Having not been seen for several days, staff who maintain the bungalow were alerted and a spare key used to unlock the room door which was when the discovery of the dead body was made and police called.

Preliminary findings suggest the deceased put the plastic bag over his head and inhaled the pressurized gas through the bag killing himself.

The Danish embassy has been notified and the body sent for post-morten.
