Faithful Dog Watches Over Drowned Body Of Krabi Dutchman

A faithful dog kept watch from shore as rescuers pulled the body of his Dutch master from a reservoir in Krabi.

Charles Haarlemmermeer, 84, was found around 8 a.m. Tuesday

was spotted by local villagers, who alerted the Muang police station at 8am in the Provincial Water Authority’s water-retention pond about a kilometer from the house he shared with wife Pikul Srisomjit.

Police suspect the old man fell into the pond while out for a walk with his dog, possibly because of the heat. A large canvas covered the edges and bottom of the pond, making it difficult to climb out.

Pikul said her husband had left home at 4pm Monday with his American Shepherd. She called authorities when he did not return by sunset. A search party scoured the area for hours before calling off the hunt due to darkness.

Someone passing by the pond the next morning spotted the Dutchman’s body.
