Fiery Phuket Fishmonger Tries To Gut Rowdy Russian Over 600 Baht

A rowdy Russian was attacked with a knife by a fiery fishmonger at a Phuket market on Saturday after the pair became involved in an altercation over 600 baht.

The men started off on friendly enough terms when the Russian made a 400 baht purchase at the Marine fresh market in Patong, paying for his fish with a 1,000 baht note.

When the fishmonger was challenged about the change being incorrect things escalated quickly, going from verbal abuse to punches being thrown within minutes.

It didn’t take long for the fishmonger to introduce a knife to proceedings who then quickly set about trying to gut the Russian for accusing him of keeping his change.

When volunteers from the rescue foundation eventually turned up they found the Russian, identified as 36-year-old Mikhail Ryzov, with his ear in tatters and his eye bleeding badly. He was bandaged up at the scene and sent to Wachira Phuket Hospital for further treatment.

Kathu police are looking into the attack and will question the Russian when he recovers from his injuries to hear his side of the story.
