Fire crews arrived at Iron Club around 3pm to find smoke bellowing from the popular chrome pole palace as dozens of Thais and tourists looked on.
Local media report an air-con engineer had been working in the club when the fire started.
He told police sparks and smoke started coming from one of the units as he reassembled it after being cleaned adding it soon went up in flames.
The man used a fire extinguisher to stop the flames spreading and was soon aided by firefighters who found the club filled with smoke from the engineers attempts to put out the fire.
