Five Top Flight Players Accused Of Match Fixing

Five footballers playing in Thailand’s top flight league are among 12 men arrested who stand accused of match fixing.

National police chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda and the Football Association of Thailand chief Somyot Poompunmuang held a press conference on Tuesday naming all those involved.

Four players from Navy FC, the goalkeeper from Nakhon Ratchasima FC, one referee and a linesman plus the director of Sisaket FC are all allegedly involved in rigging the results of four matches last season. The others named were investors.

It was also announced that Thai League 1 results would not be changed and the table positions would stand as Nakhon Ratchasima FC finished 12, Navy 13th and Sisaket second last.

All involved were released on bail having turned themselves in after arrest warrants were issued and face a 500k fine and up to five years jail time if found guilty.
