German Caught Stealing Luggage At Swampy

A German man accused of nicking another foreigner’s luggage at Suvarnabhumi International Airport was captured trying to skip over the border in Trat.

Michael Joerg, 39, was arrested at the Ban Hat Lek land crossing Saturday, airport officials announced Tuesday.

The arrest followed a complaint by a female passenger travelling from the UK that her luggage was not found at the conveyor’s belt at the airport on

A woman travelling from the U.K. on Dec. 13 said her bag never showed up, but the airline showed it had been delivered to Bangkok.

Security cameras captured Joerg taking the bag and then leaving with it in a taxi.

Police said Joerg confessed, saying snagging bags at Swampy had been a hobby of his for a while. Every time he hops over the border to Cambodia to sell his loot.

He now faces up to five years in jail and a fine of up to 100,000 baht.
