Giant Crane Collapses In Silom

A shophouse and three cars were destroyed and several people hurt when a construction crane collapsed in Bang Rak Friday.

The crane operator was trapped in his cab and pedestrians near the site on Soi Sala Daeng 2 suffered minor injuries in the 9:20 a.m. collapse that blocked all traffic and knocked out power.

The crane fell into a shophouse, across power lines and onto three vehicles.

The crane had been hoisted over a new apartment building being built behind the Siam Complex shopping centre on Silom Road. Soi Sala Daeng 2 connects Sala Daeng and Convent roads.

The cleanup was expected to stretch into the afternoon.
