Grifter Who Fleeced Pattaya Pensioner Nabbed In Nong Bua Lampu

A fraudster who posed as a Thai policeman to bilk a British expat in Pattaya out of 200,000 baht has been arrested.

Suchart “Num” Sombatchai, 34, was captured at Nong Bua Lamphu Hospital and brought back to Sin City Tuesday to face fraud and police-impersonation charges.

Suchart is also wanted in Phuket on similar charges.

But none of his scams were bigger than the one he pulled in May on Peter Stonebridge, 66.

The bilked Briton said the suspect contacted claiming to be a cop named Theerachart, asking for a loan to pay for an urgent operation for his son.

For some reason, Gullible Gerry thought he knew Theerachart and happily transferred the 200K to his bank account even though it was under the name of Phanphit Phatpheng in Issan.

To no one’s surprise but Stonebridge’s, “Theerachart” vanished into thin air with his money.

Police also have evidence Suchart posed as a “Sgt. Kitisak” to trick another businessman out of 30,000 baht.
