JJ Green Market To Close Aug 31

“The coolest place to shop in Bangkok” will be shut down at the end of August with 50 million baht in back rent still due.

Bangkok Gov. Asawin Kwanmuang confirmed Monday that the JJ Green Night Market in Chatuchak will be returned to the Queen Sirikit Park Foundation to become part of a much larger green space.

The city terminated its contract with V Multimedia, which has run the market dubbed the “coolest” of them all, saying its failure to pay rent was definitely uncool.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration now plans to sue the market operator for its back rent.

The market, meanwhile, will be added to Queen Sirikit and CHatujak parks, as well as the Rot Fai railroad market to make a 727-rai mega greenspace for North Bangkok.
