Kiwi Nicked For Dealing Drugs

Police in Chiang Mai arrested a 55-year-old Kiwi for working illegally and possession of class 1 drugs on Tuesday night.

Michael Holt was taken into custody at Spades Bistro & Bar on Samlan Road at around 10pm after police received a tipoff a foreigner was working illegally and suspected to be dealing drugs from the premises.

The Auckland native was found to have a valid Retirement visa which forbids the holder from doing any type of work.

During a search, officers also discovered 64 ecstasy pills, 9.92 grams of cocaine and 9.68 grams of ketamine.

Holt was charged with possession of class 1 and 2 drugs and dealing in class 1 drugs. He was also charged for working illegally.

If found guilty he faces up to five years in prison and a fine of 20,000-100,000 baht for possession and up to life behind bars and a fine of between 100,000 – 5,000,000 baht for dealing class 1 drugs.
