Ladyboy Con Artist Arrested For Ripping Off Japanese Men

Police have arrested a 45-year-old Thai man posing as a woman in distress to defraud Japanese men for the seventh time.

immigration bureau chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang told reporters Uthai Nanthakhan posed as a female tourist from Taiwan or Hong Kong by dressing in women’s clothing and approaching Japanese men in shopping districts between August and October.

“I came here on a trip and my wallet and passport were stolen. I want you to lend me money,” Uthai told them.

In some cases, the suspect escorted the victims to an ATM machine.

According to the Embassy of Japan in Bangkok, nine expats and tourists have been swindled over the last three months, with the amount lost estimated at 460,000 baht.

The arrest is the seventh for Uthai. He was spprehended at a room on Sukhumvit Soi 81 in a joint operation by Thongloro police and immigration.

Over the past 10 years, the ladyboy con artist is believed to have used the same ruse to swindle around 100 Japanese tourists out of millions of baht.

He was only released from prison on August 1 for past convictions.
