Leicester Team Arrives In Bangkok

Leicester City Football Club members will touch down in Bangkok today to attend the cremation of the club’s late chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

Brendan Rogers left the U.K. with his team Tuesday, marking the start of their second visit since November after Vichai was killed in a Oct. 27 helicopter crash after it took off from King Power Stadium.

Vichai’s body has laid in rest for 100 days after his funeral in November. The cremation is the final part of the Buddhist rite.

The travelling team – which doesn’t include those players with international duty – will return on Saturday.

“Coming into the club I’ve got a real sense of what he meant to everyone,” Rodgers told U.K. media. “He was an incredible leader and for all his wealth he was a good person.”

Rodgers also lauded Vichai’s son, Aiyawatt, for carrying on.

“I lost my own father at quite a young age, when he was 59, and people will understand what that experience does to you and how tough it was,’ Rodgers said.

“Top has been so brave and so courageous and really positive at what is a really dark time for him,” Rodgers continued, using Aiyawatt’s nickname. “When you analyse the situation, it’s the first time that he will have been leading without his father.’

He said the best way the club can honour its late owner is to win as many championships as possible. Leicester currently is ranked 10th in the Premier League with just 41 points.
