MRT Blue Line More Space Less Seats

The operator of the MRT Blue Line announced Monday they would remove all seating from the central carriage on a number of trains to make more space for passengers.

Bangkok Expressway and Metro said it would trial the experiment on a number of trains starting today and running through until the end of the year.

In September 2017, BEM contracted Siemens to supply 35 sets (3 cars) of rolling stock and provide maintenance for 10 years in a contract worth 20 billion baht.

The first batch of 3 sets of new trains will be delivered in late 2018, the second batch of 15 will arrive by early 2019 and the last batch of 17 sets will be delivered in late 2019.

In the meantime, it’s pack em in like sardines.
