Nigerian Nicked On 2,412 Day Overstay

A Nigerian man who had overstayed his visa by 2,412 was arrested by immigration police on Koh Phangan on Monday.

Thai media report immigration received a tip-off to 1178 hotline informing them that “Mr Samuel” had been staying in the country for over six years without a valid visa.

Surat Thani immigration were soon knocking on the Nigerian’s door in the Baan Nai Suan area of the island where it took minutes to confirm his visa status.

Samuel was arrested and charged which will see him in the dock before being deported and blacklisted.

Planned Travel Bubbles Are Burst For The Time Being

Planned travel bubbles look like they have burst for the time being after several countries earmarked for the scheme have seen a spike in Covid-19 cases, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand.

The government have been planning to launch travel bubbles with several countries with low coronavirus risk including China, Japan and South Korea with a possible August launch.

CAAT director-general Chula Sukmanop said Thailand will closely monitor the Covid-19 situation this month and reassess planned agreements.

Airlines have been advised to wait for a clear policy from the government and CAAT following reports airlines are preparing to resume international flights in September.

18-Wheeler Takes Out 6 Utility Poles

An 18-wheeler carrying rocks crashed in the rain taking out six utility poles and leaving several vehicles damaged.

The accident happened just after 1am on Pridi Banomyong Road just before the Khlong Tan intersection in Bangkok.

An eyewitness said the driver lost control coming over a bridge hitting a pole that fell over and dragged another five down with it.

Two cars and a motorbike were damaged but fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The accident resulted in a blackout in homes 50 meters surrounding the accident site.

Off icers from the Khlong Tan Police Station closed the road while workers from the Metropolitan Electricity Authority cleared the mess repaired the damaged poles.

Russian Woman Suspected Of Murdering Her Infant Daughter

A Russian woman who attempted to take her own life by jumping from a third-floor apartment in North Pattaya at the weekend is in police custody suspected of murdering her infant daughter.

Anna Efimova, 33, was found by police and medics with injuries to her legs at the apartment block on Sukhumvit Road at around 3.30pm on Sunday afternoon.

While she was taken to Bangkok Pattaya hospital for treatment while Banglamung police went to inspect her room where they found blood stains and splatters on the floor and walls.

In the bathroom, they discovered the body of an infant girl with 3 large wounds to her forehead under a towel below the wash hand basin.

Documents found in the room identified the dead infant as the woman’s daughter who was 1 year and 7 months old.

Russian Woman Suspected Of Murdering Her Infant Daughter

Police also found drug paraphernalia in the room with officers speculating the suspect might have been high when she killed her daughter, before jumping from the balcony.

An employee at the apartment block told police the woman checked in with her daughter on Saturday at 7pm and paid for a three-day stay.

Police are now waiting for the woman to recover to question her over the girl’s death.
