Nine British Tourists Injured In Minivan Smash

Nine British tourists were injured, one seriously, when the minivan they were traveling in collided with a truck in Surat Thani province early on Saturday morning.

When emergency services arrived at the scene of the accident close to the boundary with Krabi province at around 8am, they found the truck flipped on its side and the minivan’s front end badly damaged with most of the passengers suffering only minor injuries.

One 26-year-old British woman had suffered a broken leg and a dislocated hip. She along with the other walking wounded were taken to Plai Phraya Hospital for treatment.

Police said the tourists were heading to Koh Phi Phi from Koh Samui when the minivan carrying 11 people hit the back of the six-wheeled truck.

According to Thai news reports, witnesses say the minivan was traveling at high speed when it lost control and smashed into the truck causing it to flip over.

An investigation is under way to establish the cause of the crash.
