Norwegian Hero Saves Boys From Phuket Riptide

A Norwegian tourist is Thailand’s newest farrang hero after saving two children sucked out to sea on a vicious riptide in Phuket.

Terji Tonnessen, 37, was on a surfboard at Nai Yang Beach on Monday when he saw six children swept out to sea. Three managed to swim back, but three others flailed helplessly.

The big Nord jumped in and saved two of the boys, including Yaowapha Laolang’s son Nawaphon. She melted in tears of joy when Terji brought him back safe to her.

Suphat Jampathong, 11, was not as lucky and is still considered missing.

All the boys were from nearby Ban Ma Lao village and had come to the beach for a swim on their school holiday.
