Two Australian women who filed a complaint with police in Phuket earlier this week after being overcharged for a trip from the airport to their hotel have changed their tune and joined the PR party saying it was all a big misunderstanding.
Kate Chipperfield and Lauren Meinties went to Karon police station on Tuesday to complain a minivan driver charged them 3,000 baht for a trip to their hotel in Kata from the airport.
Of course, the airport tout who talked them into the trip instead of waiting on the pickup service from their hotel denied any wrongdoing. As did the driver who claimed he only charged them 2,000 baht.
Even 2k is more than what it should have cost had they opted to ride solo and not share the minivan with other passengers.
According to Tourist Police riding solo the two Aussies should have been charged only 1,600 baht for the journey.
A meeting was held where all parties told their side of the story, which were all different but in the end it was “agreed” that it was all just a misunderstanding.
A 2,000 baht fine was handed to the tout for soliciting business at the airport without permission. As for the driver, well, he appears to have got off without a fine as cops couldn’t make up their mind whether to believe him or the tourists about the price they paid.
