A Swedish man who killed a New Zealander in a Pattaya beer bar brawl in 2012 has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after the Swedish Court of Appeal overturned a previous manslaughter conviction that seen him sentenced to only 18 months behind bars.

Swede Andreas Ringvall and his Thai girlfriend had been involved in an argument with Robert Hollick, 43, over a dog at a Soi Diana beer bar. Ringvall left the bar returning with a knife and fatally stabbing his victim in the neck.

Bystanders apprehended both Ringvall and his girlfriend, Daw Pholutsa, 26, who were soon cuffed and charged with murder and conspiracy to murder.

Two months following his arrest, Ringvall was bailed for 500,000 baht and soon fled Thailand starting a new life in his home country under a new name in the town of Nynashamn, where he worked as a labourer.

After living his new life as Andreas Karlsson for two years, Ringvall was arrested by Stockholm police in July 2014 following a request by Thai authorities and charged with murder.

However, at his trial, flaws in the original police investigation and a lack of witnesses resulted in the Nacka District Court convicting Ringvall on a lesser charge of aggravated assault and manslaughter that seen him jailed for 18 months jail.

This past week the Swedish Court of Appeal overturned the earlier decision and sentenced Ringvall to 10 year in prison for the murder of Robert Hollick.
