Pattaya Club Ordered Closed For Five Years

A Pattaya nightclub has been ordered closed for five years following a raid by police, the military and district officials early on Thursday morning having found over 100 underage customers in the bar drinking alcohol.

Face Club, off the South Pattaya Road, was one of a half dozen venues raided after locals complained about underage drinking, loud music and the clubs staying open into the small hours.

Police told reporters that when they entered Face Club there were 120 patrons inside and discovered only six of them were aged over 20, the legal drinking age at licensed venues in Thailand. Several were found to be as young as 14-years-old.

All 114 teenagers were shipped to Pattaya Police Station using baht buses but most of them legged it upon arrival as there wasn’t enough officers on duty to deal with so many people at once.

Those who failed to make their getaway were held at the station until their parents arrived to explain to police why their children were allowed to visit a nightclub before getting a slap on the wrists and sent packing.

The manager of the club, Saksri Paneenatpanich, was held in police custody and charged with various offences relating to underage drinking and licensing violations.

Banglamung district officer Chakorn Kanchanawatta said that the venue was ordered closed down for five years under the new laws brought into force last week under Section 44.
