Pattaya Street Bars Busted

A squad of soldiers and city officials shut down a string of illegal street bars in Pattaya during a late night raid on Thursday following complaints from local residents.

The owners had been given a weeks notice to shut down their street side bars that were set up on footpaths near Bali Hai Pier or face the consequences. It was reported several bars decided to ignore the warning and carried on selling booze to tourists without proper licenses and allegedly stealing power from the street lights.

Around 30 soldiers and officials from the Pattaya Municipal Office were led by Lt. Winai Duangthong who told reporters the bars did not have permission to use the public space adding 14 tables, 29 chairs and 16 billboards were confiscated and taken as evidence.

Locals had been complaining about the noise and disturbance for years saying the bars spoiled the area that is popular with Chinese tourists.
