Pickup Found Abandoned In Chiang Rai Loaded With 12 Million Amphetamine Tablets

An abandoned pickup truck loaded with 12 million methamphetamine pills was found by locals in Chiang Rai on Monday, according to police.

The discovery was made after residents in Wing Chiat district inspected an abandoned truck in the middle of the road that had lost a wheel.

Cops were soon on the scene and the vehicle was taken back to the station where the counting began.

A total of 57 sacks containing 11,996,000 speed pills weighing 1,425kg were found.

Pol Gen Thanitsak Theerasawat, special adviser to the Royal Thai Police Office, told reporters smugglers had recently started using secondary roads to avoid police checkpoints.

The pickup was overloaded and this is the likely reason the wheel came off and the vehicle abandoned by the driver.

The 57 packs of pills were all stamped with “Y1’’ or “999’’ and believed to belong to a Wa drug trafficking gang.
